Description

If it is true that to know a people one must know its heroes, than, to know the Maltese people, this book is where to start.

For Manuel Dimech (1860-1921) is one of the greatest of Malta’s heroes, surpassed by few, if any.

He was bred on the streets addicted to a life of crime, from which he grew out during long years in prison. Here he accomplished himself to such an extent that, on release, he embarked on a memorable life of public service through journalism, teaching, social action, poetry and his own brand of philosophy.

This, however, brought him in direct conflict with the Catholic Church, which persecuted him ruthlessly. Fearless and unwavering, he won the battle, but the British colonial government sought him out, and exiled him for life.

Discover for yourself Dimech’s amazing story. In his indomitable spirit you’ll also glimpse into the soul of a nation.
