Description

“Someone with autism taught me unimaginable strength, patience and compassion”

What is it like to parent a child with autism?  How can we know what a person – especially a child with autism is thinking and feeling, so that we can help them?  This book provides some of the answers.  Helen offers an unforgettable short story.  It provides the reader with an invaluable insight into autism and offers a rare opportunity to view the world from a family’s perspective.  It was extremely moving for me both as a professional working to support families having children with autism and having had the privilege to be a small part of Francesca’s and her family’s life.  Thank you Francesca.

It is a privilege for me to write this review.  Francesca was my first client.  She has a special place in my heart.  This is a touching story written by a courageous mother who lays her heart bare and recounts to us what is meant for her to take care of her beloved daughter.  No amount of challenges and hurdles could stop her from giving Francesca a good quality of life.  Her intense love for her inspired her children and all her family to do the same.  Throughout the story she advocates for other children with disability, for parents who find themselves in the same situation she and her husband had to go through and for her siblings, who like her children, undergo a similar experience; all this with a passion that is contagious.
