Description
Dwardu Cachia (1857-1907), is the biography of the poet Dwardu Cachia who is mostly known for the ballad Katrin ta’ l-Imdina.
In his book, Dr Axiaq analyses and examines other works by Cachia, collected from newspapers and other sources of his era.
In so doing he acknowledges the link that existed during this time between Cachia’s literary works in the people’s language and his aim to educate the people, a typical concept of the 18th and 19th centuries focusing on cultural development and democratic progress.
Dr Axiaq teaches Maltese at De La Salle College Sixth Form and Maltese pedagogy and methodology within the Faculty of Education of the University of Malta.
He holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Sheffield and has authored other works, including translations.
