Discovered accidentally in 1881, the Domvs Romana is one of the best surviving testimonies of the ancient town of Melite and of life within. Successive archaeological excavations along the years unearthed several discoveries, among which were elaborate mosaics and a collection of fine marble statues which indicate that this residence belonged to an affluent owner who may have had some political ties with the Imperial family. The excavations uncovered also other small Roman houses and a cluster of Islamic tombs.
