A pioneer and a towering figure in the valorisation of our national patrimony, de Soldanis left no stone unturned to fulfil his mission. The task presented overwhelming difficulties but his determination and dedication knew no boundaries. One is spoilt for choice which appellation to adopt with respect to de Soldanis. Antiquarian, ecclesiastic, ethnographer, librarian, linguist, naturalist and patriot all qualify convincingly. Indeed, an authentic intellectual visionary by any standard.
The kaleidoscopic collection of essays presented in this publication attests to the versatility and prolificacy of his academic pursuits which emanated from and were constantly driven by a deep love for his native country and by a quasi-pious desire to emancipate and honour its people.
