The work included in this volume is tangible proof of the various research activities being pursued at the University of Malta. It is evident that over the years significant contributions have been made to various fields of knowledge. This book is by no means a complete picture but provides a good representative sample. Many of the contributions have been written as ‘state-of-the-art’ reviews, distilling the contents, with the hope of stimulating readers to explore further those areas of special interest to them.
