Description
Commonly referred to the Castrum, Gran Castello, Castello or Castle in historic documents, the Ċittadella is Gozo’s most extensive and multi-faceted heritage resource.
It has a surface area of well over 40,000m2 and features an imposing network of medieval and gun-powder fortifications, a fine baroque cathedral, extensive ruins of an early modern urban core, archaeological remains and deposits spanning millennia, ecological habitats of international importance, and a host of museums and related cultural attractions.
Furthermore, it offers astounding views of picturesque Gozo, northwest Malta, and on clear days, Mount Etna and the meridian coast of Sicily.
