Description

Tony’s narrative starts off in the war years when Malta was subject to a horrific air bombardment by the Axis powers. Born into this hostile scenario, the infant Tony announced his arrival in style by being involved in a Karozzin accident on the way to his baptism in Valletta! Luckily he survived and the rest, as they say is history.

Reading through the events chronicled here and looking at the accompanying photographs brought back many happy (and not so happy) memories. I was only four years old when our father Silvio died, leaving my mother Molly, a real heroine, with the daunting task of raising her four children on the measly pittance known as the ‘Widow and Orphans Pension’. I remember accompanying her every month to the Grand Master’s Palace in Valletta, where the Pensions Office was located, to draw the princely sum of 18 pounds.
